Hire a thief to catch a thief (AI software to detect AI content)
Did you know that there is software that will write articles for you?
Of course, you know that. AI content. It’s all the rage. Unlimited content for almost no money. Sounds too good to be true.
The problem is Google doesn’t like it.
Most readers probably don’t like it either, but nobody is all that concerned about the readers. Joking BTW.
This means if you use AI content, you need to ensure Google can’t detect its AI.
If you don’t use it, you need to ensure writers you hire don’t deliver AI content.
Why is AI content a problem?
It’s a problem because Google said it does NOT want to rank AI content. That makes it risky.
Can Google detect AI Content?
Not long ago I suggested it’s unlikely Google can detect AI in a vacuum and relies on other site signals to deem a site legit with original content.
Now I’m not so sure.
I say that because today there’s a very, very, very cool new software we can all use that detects AI content.

Get this… it detects AI using the same tech that writes it.
It’s the classic hire a thief to catch a thief scenario.
More importantly, if a few guys can harness AI tech to detect AI content, you can bet your bottom dollar that Google can too.
How am I using this AI detection software?
I use it for one main reason and that is to deter writers I hire from using AI.
I now set out in the content briefs that I run delivered content through state-of-the-art AI detection software. This alone serves as a strong deterrent.
I actually do spot-check content with the software. Not all of it but some of it.
How else can you use it?
The obvious use is if you use AI content, run it through the software. If the software detects it as AI, you have some editing work to do.
Let’s call it an AI content due diligence step.
If I published AI content, I’d run every piece through this. You’d be a fool not to because if this software can detect it as AI, so can Google.
Hiring
When hiring freelancers and they submit test articles, you can use this software to check whether they use AI.

If you use AI, you can use this software to figure out minimal inputs to take what registers as AI content to not being rated as AI. Will adding a few personalized sentences throughout do it? A new section? New intro? I don’t actually know but you can play around with it to find out.

How accurate is it?
It’s not 100% accurate but it’s pretty good. I tested it with articles I wrote myself and articles I generated with AI. It did a good job distinguishing the two. What I like about it is it doesn’t rate it yes or no. It’s a percentage. Check it out:
While not crystal clear, that’s a strong indication it’s not AI (that article is not AI).
When I ran pure unedited AI content, it was clear:
Caveat
Because it’s not 100% accurate, I would caution against accusing writers of using AI. There’s a chance of false positives.
However, if the content from the same writer consistently registers as AI, it’s a good idea not to work with them anymore.
How much?
You pay via credits so you pay as you go. This is my favorite way of paying for software because I’m not getting dinged every month whether I use it or not.
If you outsource and/or use AI content, this is the software you need to try.
Again, it’s not 100% accurate but I’ve found it sufficiently accurate to be helpful. I suspect like AI, it will get more and more accurate very soon.
